Agrium Advanced Technologies will make an increasingly positive impact on stakeholders while helping to feed the world responsibly.
In Your Community
Agrium Advanced Technologies sees itself in a relationship with a few types of communities. We are a neighbor in rural and urban centers where we have offices or operations. We are also part of a much larger global community as a responsible corporate citizen.
As a neighbor, we have many positive influences - we may be a large employer in the area, creating local business opportunities and contributing to your tax base. But we also share community infrastructure like roads, water and protective services and generate noise that can have an impact.
We see ourselves as residents, not tenants, of the communities where we have operations. As a responsible member of the community, we must maintain a dialogue with our neighbors, support programs in need, and share our knowledge when possible.
Community Outreach
Agrium believes in supporting the communities in which we live, work and conduct business. In this spirit, we strive to build and maintain positive relationships within our communities. We focus our support in areas of youth, culture, health and wellness, the environment, and opportunities that encourage personal growth. Because a large percentage of our business activities take place in or near small towns, we often work with customers and suppliers to help make a difference.
Ways We Build Relationships Within Communities
Through Dialogue:
We engage communities in a variety of ways to achieve benefits and understanding. In some locations we use Community Advisory Panels, in others we liaise with community leaders and host open houses for residents. We regularly conduct door-to-door visits with neighbors of our production facilities. We believe that through open dialogue we can maintain a healthy relationship with members of the surrounding community and should a crisis occur we all know what to do.
Through Community Initiatives:
Often rural communities have fewer recreation and learning opportunities than in urban locations. Agrium Advanced Technologies supports a rural way of life by contributing to 4-H, Earth Day, Progressive Farm Safety day camps and farm safety programs. In some cases, we also support parks and recreational facilities. We see ourselves as residents, not tenants, and support is one way we are able to give back.
Through Education:
Many of our educational support programs outside of our business are directed at youth. We are strong advocates for farm safety and leadership development. Caring For Our Watersheds school program has generated a lot of attention from schools and it will be expanding internationally over the next five years. Working with our industry associations we have also developed an independent curriculum-based website for youth at Growing the Next Generation to give students and teachers better tools and to continue to dialogue with both. Education is inquiry based (less so than curriculum based).
Education and Program Support
Education is a big part of our business, and a core philosophy for Agrium Advanced Technologies. We educate our employees, growers and stakeholders. We offer tours to members of the community or media who want to learn more about our operations.
